I didn't mean to leave that last post up as long as I did. I am dealing with a bit of an access problem at the moment. The video in my laptop is coming down off its high and sliding into the its dark tweaker hole. Yeah, that was a line from NYPD Blue. I watched an episode this morning and couldn't stop laughing when they described a self-induced drug detox this way. It fits my computer so perfectly! In truth, though, something is seriously f***ed up with my laptop, and it appears to be MAC's fault. They are going to fix it for free....but that means I am without access (except from work) for the next couple weeks. I think I am going to go through withdrawl.

There has been much alcohol consumed over this last weekend...it is hard to even think about it. No, I didn't spend the weekend drunk, but just with a nice buzz. It wasn't planned. First, was post Poetry-slam beer at Altitudes. This was followed shortly thereafter by amazingly strong frozen, blended drinks and left-over wedding wine at Mark and Tessa's place. Then came the peach sangria at Olive Garden with the boys, strawberry margaritas at some random bar with the boys and Jess, and then a couple ciders with the Drag Queens. Not actually a lot....none really contained mass amounts of alcohol (except maybe the frozen drink at Tessa's, but I didn't get to actually drink that - Dr.Arnold's son kicked it over before I had a chance)...but still. Think I will stick to water, gateraide, and tea for a bit.

**Edit
I'm not sure how to process this. DorthyAnne aka "The Cat Lady" just called the lab to see if "her computer" was still open. (Of course, noone wants to have your cooties lady!) Just before she hung up she decided that should I decide that I don't want to teach, I have a great voice for phone sex. MERP!!!! Who knows, I might...but I don't want to hear about it from her. I also don't want the train of thought that is leading me to questions like, "Why does she know what makes a good phone sex voice?" (There. I gave it to you.)

I find it highly amusing that people find this blog by googling "Mistress Mandy". Sub people! Right here...yes me! There I've said it....not like most of you didn't already know.

Also funny is that someone is repeatedly finding my blog by typing in "curvy kink lessons". I'm not entirely sure why this is coming up as recently there hasn't been much sex talk on here....and it most assuredly hasn't been kinky talk. I'd remember that!

But for a little sex talk....or sex reading. It appears that several of my favorite sex blogs (I'm horribly addicted to reading other people's smut) have banded together and written/or been written about in a book. Check it out.

If a book about the blogs isn't your thing...check out the blogs themselves. I know the couple from Sweetness Follows is part of the book. I'm not entirely sure who else is in the book, but just so you have more links to go to...I would also recommend DinnerParty, Pillowbook,ErosBlog, and TwistedMonk. Some of these are purely sex stories, others the sex/kink just happens to be part of their lives.

Now, go lock yourself in a dark room and satisfy those hidden smut reading desires. And you can't say I never talk sex with you.

Lost, confused, buried, grasping, stressed, powerless, scared, unnerved, unready...

Overwhelmed.

All are words that aptly describe my state of mind right now. I don't know how full time teachers do it. When I was only teaching the 7th graders I was fine. Planning, which is not my strongest suite, took place on a week-by-week basis. This was good. I was prepared for the week by Friday and could then adjust for each class as needed. Now, I have the 8th graders too. I know this is the point...but Oh-My-Goddess! I can't keep anything straight. Dates and assignments are getting jumbled, even though all are written out in at least two different spots. Heaven forbid I get names correct, even for the kids I have known since the beginning. I feel like crying every time a student doesn't do an assignment correctly. I know I shouldn't, but I do. I'm internalizing things I have no control over. I've been lying to students. Not intentionally mind you, but still... For instance, I am checking source cards to make sure they know how to cite sources correctly in MLA style. I know this. I've had MLA and APA pounded into my head from the beginning of my first degree. Yet, I am looking at these cards and signing off saying "yes, they are right" when they aren't. Chunks of info will be missing or the format will be wrong. How can I teach when I can't get the information correct on my own? I am coming home with headaches everyday. I know I can handle this. I know this is something every student teacher goes through, but that doesn't help. I don't like this. It needs to get better now!

Overwhelmed.

And if anyone points out the grammar mistakes that I have made in this post I will throw the big blue grammar book at you and laugh!

"Tony has to be home by midnight, so we are on a Cinderlla mission. With this in mind, we keep our eye on the ball. There isn't really a gay scene or a straight scene in our town. They got all mixed up a while back, which I think is for the best. Back when I was in second rade, the older gay kids who didn't flee to the city for entertainment would have to make their own fun. Now it's all good. Most of the straight guys try to sneak into the Queer Beer bar. Boys who love boys flirt with girls who love girls. And whether your heart is strictly ballroom or bluegrass punk, the dance floors are open to whatever you have to offer. This is my town. I've lived here all my life."

This is how a phenomenal young adult novel opens. Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan follows the grand Judy Bloom-ish tradition of teen-angst and puppy love but with a twist. This time it isn't the girl pining for the boy. I highly suggest you read it. Quick, easy, and entertaining.

I had heard of this book, but never read it. I found it at the Jr.High library. Multiple copies. In fact, there is even a copy in the display case about Valentine's Day. Maybe the school isn't as conservative as it first seems? Maybe I'm not the only one asking students to think about what they are saying when they call assignments, computers, friends, etc. "gay"? Maybe I judged too quickly?

*This is an actual conversation I held today with a student*

Where's your worksheet?
Here.
Are you going to fill in the story details?
No.
Why not?
Because I'm going to be a pirate! (Arms fly into the air)
A pirate huh?
Yep. (Big grin)
Eye patch or peg leg?
Both...
Both eyes or both legs?
Both.
Mmmkay...good luck with that. You still need to get your work done.
Why?
Mostly because you aren't going to go far as a pirate in Wyoming.
Huh?
We aren't anywhere near any body of water big enough for pirates.
Can I borrow a pencil?

Welcome to Spring Semester 2005!!!

Sloth has made a reappearance, Dastard is still missing, I haven't updated my links bar to include the wonderful blogger personalities of Christin, Meg, Corley, and Gina, Clay is away being art-teachery with middleschool students, the Norton Shakespeare will be living with Tessa this semester, I've only seen about half the friends I love and adore since NewYears, Bridget is alive and well and working at the TatteredCover in CherryCreek, I'm bored with my hair, I won't be able to make any of the WAN, Spectrum, SafeZone meetings this semester, and I've come to the conclusion that while I chose my schedule....it sucks goat toes! I'm gathering books for an extra credit get-em-reading project for my 8th graders, I have an unexplained bruise on the back of my right thigh, if I want I have a constant supply of Jim stories from colleagues, I have colleagues! I need to find a new stock of things that make easy take with lunches, pb&j just isn't gonna cut it for an entire semester, and I am somewhat jealous of everyone still in academia...I want to buy books, learn how the new teacher works, be on campus, see friends on a regular basis, talk to someone over 14, be anything but proper and well behaved.

Take luck this semester! If you ever need a break come visit my class, but be prepared...

Ohhh, and just in case I forget, some one please remind me to buy lightbulbs. Four different bulbs blinked out over the course of the weekend. It's hard to choose clothes at 6 am while using a flashlight.

Hi, I'm Mandy and I'm a cross-over listener. When I find musicians that I love I faithfully follow them through whichever genres they choose...until otherwise too scared to continue. This has caused a few bumps in my listening career. Do you remember Chris Gains? No, let me refresh your memory. Gains was Garth Brooks' alter rock ego....who was also a whoppin' flop. But not all cross-over artists get it wrong. In fact many have taken to the two formulas that - unless they do something horrible to the song - will almost always work. The first being covers of already made songs. Apocalyptica (They are classically trained cello artists that have a deep longing to be Metallica, Slayer, or several other hard rock bands.)and Hell's Belles (Girl group gone AC-DC)are a couple of my favorites. The second is to not actually cross-over but to do a song with a group/artist from a completely different genre. Aerosmith and RunDMC did this successfully with Walk This Way. And now....I'm a little bit shocked to be saying this....but here goes.....Nelly and Tim McGraw have pulled off this one as well. The video is what made this one for me (Check out Over and Over). It just works no matter how much the combination bends my brain....it does. Trust me.

Edit:: It appears that I am having a Big Hair Band sort of day. Forgive...or come play air guitar with me.

Hmmm maybe I should post my list for the NewYear. Nope, not resolutions. I loathe that word. To me it implies disappointment. Past, present, and future. This is something I don't want or need in my life. Too often I've let that emotion take over, sometimes briefly othertimes for quite a while. No more. So the first thing on my list is No Disappointment. If the things on this list do not occur I won't pout, whine, or feel sorry for myself. I will try to figure out what the Goddess is up to and move in another direction. As for the rest of the list...well in general it is really just inane things such as finding a job teaching, at a school I actually want to be at, trying to be more grounded in general (see "I like Pink" and "Oooh sparkly"), to not worry about not having a date...or anyone interested in me, to buy new socks before my toes and heels debut into the freezing weather, find some way to rent Bollywood movies (Blockbuster and Hastings just don't have the good ones....or any), lose 20 pounds, tell the truth, be beautiful, see beauty, love my friends and family...

This could go on for hours. I won't subject you to that. Instead, the first confession of the new year. I have a deepseated craving for films, books, songs that have characters with my name. It's kind of cheesy but it is a quick and easy way to fantasize. I can be a whole new person....for the length of the movie. This being said, I'm a bit disappointed in the Mandys and Amandas I've seen, heard, read lately. The Amandas tend to be quiet, frumpy, waiting for Prince charming types, while the Mandys are flighty, hyper-energetic and prone to have apartments decorated in butterflies. Isn't there an in-between?

OK, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

And if anyone plays my song just remember that (for at least those in Laramie) I know where you live and can find ways to torture your dust bunnies.
