tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-65236622024-02-08T07:06:03.316-07:00~ MandyLand ~ Hi, Welcome to MandyLand. This is a unique world where the rules change randomly, vague chaos reigns, and not even Management is kept up to date on all happenings. Please enjoy your visit, but don't expect the guide book or map to always be helpful. Many areas are still under construction...and new ones are being found all the time.

My original plan was to completely revamp it (as a birthday present), but when my laptop died that idea flew out the window. Now in celebration of my new laptop (thanks lady!) and finally feeling comfortable with my choices and the life they have led to....this blog is coming to an end. Don't fret, though, you just have to adjust your links. My story isn't ending, it is just starting a new chapter.

**Edit**

With the new blog, I am ditching the massive link list. Many of my original links have moved or stopped blogging. If you would like to be added to the new list (I'll continue to read your blog even if you aren't linked anew) please leave me a message here.Mandyfishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12758792191021561729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6523662.post-1141664051121412432006-03-06T09:47:00.000-07:002006-03-06T09:54:11.130-07:00I am in love!

Ashes and Snow is a phenomenal exhibit by the Gregory Colbert. In fact I have proof. I was talking to Texas at the time...and...the alarm was still set this morning. I don't know if I just turned it off this morning or what. My bet is that it actually did ring. I just ignored it and eventually the machine gave up on me. (Imagine a small blue clock thowing its hands into the air and muttering "I give up. She ain't gettin' her ass outta bed today!")

As it was I had 10 minutes to get to school...before class was supposed to start. I'm sporting the scrubby, just rolled out of bed look...pigtails, bandanna, jeans, and sandals. I forgot my glasses. ~sigh~ I forgot my lunch. ~sigh~ A group of students has already written a letter to the principal complaining about my hair gear. They don't think its fair that a teacher can wear a bandanna while they can't. Thankfully, the administration is on my side. The official ruling? "Students and teachers follow different codes of conduct, which includes clothing. If you want to wear a bandanna here...go to college and come back with your BA and a teaching degree." ~sigh~Mandyfishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12758792191021561729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6523662.post-1137506064676309842006-01-17T06:51:00.000-07:002006-01-17T06:54:24.686-07:00It's my birthday - Show your love!Mandyfishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12758792191021561729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6523662.post-1137433228361645002006-01-16T10:35:00.000-07:002006-01-16T10:40:28.376-07:00Aftermath:

Bruises and soarness from my shoulders to the balls of my feet. One look at the ceramic cauldron and the emerald, glass goblet that are tucked among my books, and I am flooded with memories of meals / gatherings at granma's house. Feelings of power, awe, and peace color their use now. Blankets and teddy bears induce the need to curl up and hibernate. Some objects can morph and adapt...the thoughts and feelings attached to them changing as needed. Some objects can't.

My messenger bag has been my security blanket. It is a symbol of a funky academic chic that is making her way in the world. Lately, I have been encountering situations where I have been more frustrated by the bag than happy with it. A small, black, cute, and somewhat funky purse has joined the household. Now, both bag and purse sit beside the door. I'm not sure which will find a daily use and which will be left to specific situations. The bag feels more like me. The purse looks like the me I am aiming for.Mandyfishhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12758792191021561729noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6523662.post-1135463231139290472005-12-24T15:27:00.000-07:002005-12-24T15:48:02.893-07:00I am a product of my environment. One of the most special things in my memory is Christmas. Music has always been a part of Christmas. Church, carols, school, and family...I can and do associate particular songs with each. Every year when I hear these songs, a flood of happy feelings and memories come back. Lady and Elvis' Blue Christmas are forever entwined, Jake and the childish "Jingle Bells Batman Smells" will always be together. It is no surprise that my personal holiday soundtrack is the combination of americana/folk and children's popculture...John Denver and the Muppets*.

I know that I posted this last christmas, but this song is my favorite from the album.

Did you ever hear the story of the Christmas Tree
who just didn't want to change the show
He liked living in the woods and playing with squirrels
He liked icicles and snow.

He liked wolves and eagles and grizzly bears
and critters and creatures that crawled
Why bugs were some of his very best friends
Spiders and ants and all.

Now that's not to say that he ever looked down
on the vision of twinkling lights
Or on mirrored bubbles and peppermint canes
And a thousand other delights

And he often had dreams of tiny reindeer
and a jolly old man and a sleigh full of toys
and presents and wonderful things
And the story of Christmas Day

Oh, Alfie believed in Christmas all right
He was full of Christmas cheer
All of each and every day
and all throughout the year

To him it was more than a special time
much more than a special day
It was more than a beautiful story
It was a special kind of way

You see, some folks have never heard a jingle bell ring
And they've never heard of Santa Claus
They've never heard the story of the son of God
And that made Alfie pause.

Did that mean that they'd never know of peace on earth
or the brotherhood of man
Or know how to love, or know how to give
If they can't...no one can.

You see, life is a very special kind of thing
not just for a chosen few
But for each and every living breathing thing
Not just me and you

So in your Christmas prayers this year
Alfie asked me if I'd ask you
Say a prayer for the wind, and the water, and the wood
And those who live there, too.

~John Denver~

Blessed Yule, Merry Christmas, Happy Hannakuh, Happy Holidays, Joyful Kwanza, Merry Sunday!
